Testimony - 12th grader

The workshop was really helpful, especially learning to look for scholarships locally and statewide instead of focusing mostly on national scholarships. Before the workshop, most of the scholarships I was applying for were nationwide, and I wasn’t getting anything. I took Mrs. Debbie’s advice and started asking my counselor about local scholarship opportunities. That helped me find and receive 2 more scholarships from my school and my CATN. Overall, I ended up receiving 5 scholarships totaling around $45,050, including a $10,000 scholarship for four years. The money has really helped, and I’m now in college, working an on-campus job, meeting new people, and having so much fun. I’m really grateful for the guidance and advice I received from Mrs. Debbie!

Kaitlin - 12th grader

I came to Mrs. Debbie early in 12th grade because my mom is a single parent raising two kids on a teacher’s salary. I knew that if I didn’t make a move, I could end up having to take out student loans. I was applying for scholarships, but I wasn’t winning. Then Mrs. Debbie taught me what I was doing wrong and how to approach scholarships differently. Fast forward to today, and I’m going to Morgan State University on a full ride! My scholarship is worth more than $30,000 a year and covers my tuition, fees, housing, meals, and books. That’s more than $120,000 toward my college education over four years. On top of that, I received another $5,500 in scholarships. I went from worrying about how I was going to pay for college to having more than $125,000 in scholarship support. I wish I had come to Mrs. Debbie sooner.
